SUSAN G. KOMEN COLLEGE SCHOLARSHIP: Susan G. Komen for the Cure the world's largest cancer organization is accepting applications for college scholarships. Applications for the $10,000 scholarships will be accepted from September 15th, 2011- November 15th, 2011. These awards aid college students facing significant financial burdens due to the loss of a parent ( or gaurdian) to breast cancer or their own breast cancer diagnosis at age 25 or younger. The scholarship awards $10,000 per year ( for up to four years) to a student to attend a state university in pursuit of a bachelor's degree. Komen scholarship recipients are selected based on scholastic achievement, commuinity service, financial need and demonstrated leadership potential. Scholarship recipients serve as Komen Collegiate Ambassadors and must volunteer their time to breast cancer awareness activities for at least 20 hours per semester. BOSTON UNIVERSITY TRUSTEE SCHOLARSHIP COMPETITION: The Boston University announces the 37th Annual Boston University Trustee Scholarship Competition. Trustee Scholars are selected by a faculty committee from a pool of applicants who have been nominated by principals and headmasters of high schools around the world. Each scholar receives a renewable scholarship covering full undergraduate tuition plus orientation and undergraduate student fees for four years. Scholars are typically in the top ten percent of their class and are also very active leaders in their schools and communities. MENSA FOUNDATION ESSAY COMPETITION: Delaware Valley Mensa invites applications for 2011- 2012 Mensa Foundation Scholarship Competition. ELIGIBILITY for MENSA scholarships: The only eligibility requirements are that the applicant be enrolled, for the academic year following the award, in a degree program in an accredited American institute of post-secondary education, and be a resident of the area of a participating local group of American Mensa. For the general awards, the applicant need not be a member of Mensa nor qualified for Mensa, and the general awards are unrestricted as to age, race, gender, level of post-secondary education and financial need. PENNSYLVANIA AMERICAN LEGION: The Pennsylvania American Legion announces the "WE THE PEOPLE" 2012 High School Oratorical Contest. DELAWARE COUNTY SCHOOL NURSES' ASSOCIATION NURSING SCHOLARSHIP: The Delaware County School Nurses' Association is offering a scholarship in the amount of $1,000, to a Delaware County High School Senior who is planning a career in nursing and has been accepted into a NLN accredited program leading to a Bachelor Degree in Nursing. Students who are interested in this scholarship should obtain an application from the School Nurse or Guidance Counselor. The application must be postmarked no later than April 6, 2012.
MARY RYAN SCHOLARSHIP: The Friendship Chapter #551, Order of the Eastern Star, has established an annual memorial scholarship to celebrate the life of Mary Ryan. Mary was a dedicated health professional. To Honor Mary, the Friendship Chapter#551 will award $250.00 to one Delaware County high school senior who will enroll this fall in training for a medical career and has Masonic ties and/ or financial need. The scholarship will be a cash gift to offset training expenses. Interested students must complete the application and write an essay. The essay should discuss the plans of the student and how this scholarship will assist him or her on the path to a medical career. Applications must be postmarked by March 15, 2012. THE HELLENIC UNIVERSITY CLUB OF PHILADELPHIA: The Hellenic University Club of Philadelphia announce their 2012-2013 University/ College Scholarships for students of Greek Descent or declared majors in Greek studies. Harvard University Announcement: No tuition and no student loans
Harvard University announced over the weekend that from now on undergraduate students from low-income families will pay no tuition. In making the announcement, Harvard's president Lawrence H. Summers said, "When only ten percent of the students in elite higher education come from families in the lower half of the income distribution, we are not doing enough. We are not doing enough in bringing elite higher education to the lower half of the income distribution."
If you know of a family earning less than $60,000 a year with an honor student graduating from high school soon, Harvard University wants to pay the tuition. The prestigious university recently announced that from now on undergraduate students from low-income families can go to Harvard for free... no tuition and no student loans!
